Casa Nuoa, Moldova
The goal of the programme is to assist street children to return to 'normal' life and, wherever possible, to their own families.
It provides rehabilitation programmes, the opportunity to attend school or vocational training classes and a home for abandoned children while they are receiving support.
All children eventually return home or to state institutions, leaving behind their street-lives.
At any one time there are around 30 children in the home. In the eight years of the programme's history, 100% of children have quit drugs, 90% have returned to school, 45% have returned home (the rest are in state institutions but with support).
In 2009-10, WJR's grant will fund daily meals (three meals a day) of 30 children living in the home.
