Sri Lanka: Model Cattle Farm – Batticaloa, Eastern Province

Working with local partner NECTAR LANKA, WJR is funding Phase One of the creation of a model cattle farm, in which the indigenous Sri Lankan cattle gene pool is upgraded by the process of cross breeding.

Subsequently, these better quality cattle (with healthier and higher milk production) will be distributed to subsistence cattle farmers in the Batticaloa District.

Distribution will occur after the 5th – 6th year and would continue from then onwards.

Phase Two will involve the development of income generating activities, including high-value dairy products and further agricultural extension.
