A major part of our humanitarian aid is the distribution of good quality second hand and new clothes to the impoverished, many of whom are elderly holocaust survivors and live alone without family support. A warm winter coat or boots can save a life during the extremely cold winters, sometimes as low as -30 C, and the money saved on buying clothes can buy food or medicine.
There is always a mountain of bags to sort at the warehouse and although it is heart-warming to see these generous donations we would be happier if they were already packed up and on their way to the communities that we support. This is not possible without the hard work and dedication of our Packers. WJR look forward to welcoming you and any friends or family to join us a future packing session.
Second-hand clothes for all age groups are donated from community collections (synagogues, women’s groups, youth groups & schools) as well as from individuals. These are normally collected in black bin liners and either taken to our warehouse, dropped off at our satellite garages or collected by WJR voluntary drivers. The bags are then sorted and packed into boxes for shipping by our group of over 100 voluntary packers.
Packing sessions are run totally by volunteers and take place on selected dates from 10.00 –13.00 at the World Jewish Relief Warehouse in Neasden (Click here for directions).
Please let us know if you would like to attend any of our upcoming packing sessions.
