Bulawayo, Zimbabwe’s second city, has a population of 1.5 million, of which around 100 are Jews.

Most are elderly, with 23 residing at Savyon Lodge, a Jewish Old Age Home. The dire situation in Zimbabwe has impacted on all aspects of society, and Savyon Lodge now finds it impossible to meet the daily needs of its residents.

The dire situation in Zimbabwe has impacted on all aspects of society

Receiving no government subsidy, the home is funded entirely by residents' charges, investments and donations from the local community and abroad. Conditions in Zimbabwe necessitate regular trips over the border to stock up on locally unavailable food and medical supplies. WJR's grant contributes towards provision of food, fuel for generators and medical supplies.
