Two major earthquakes hit the island of Sumatra, in Indonesia, on Wednesday 30 September and during the early hours of the following morning. Over 1,100 were confirmed dead, thousands were injured and at least 190,000 people required urgent assistance. World Jewish Relief, the primary humanitarian aid agency of the UK Jewish community, launched an urgent appeal to assist those affected.
