Rustavi Hesed, Georgia
WJR is supporting two programmes through the Rustavi Hesed.
The first programme is to provide heating for the Hesed building, which currently has very little heat owing to poor electricity supplies in the city. A generator was tried but it broke down shortly after purchase.
People using the centre have to remain in their hats and coats to ward off the bitter chill of Georgian winters. The windows in the building are also of poor quality and do not shut properly, allowing wind to blow through the centre.
The new heating system will provide a safe, economical and permanent supply, together with hot water, enabling the community to make full use of the facility. Repairs to the windows will allow those attending the Hesed to be warm and comfortable.
The second programme will provide 15 children from very deprived backgrounds with the sports equipment they need at school. They will receive either sports shoes or a tracksuit - items which their families cannot afford.
