Streets Ahead Children’s Centre (SACCA) – Rwanda
SACCA provides homes and assistance for former and current street-living and working children in Kayonza, Rwamagana and Kabarondo, Rwanda.
They care for some 220 children aged 10-21. The centres ensure that these young people, orphaned or abandoned by their families as a result of genocide, poverty or HIV/AIDS, are properly clothed and fed, educated, or trained for vocational work and apprenticed to local businesses.
The centres also support the children and motivate them to abandon street life and take up employment or education.
The expertise acquired by the staff at the centres has led the Rwandan Government and local social services to refer to SACCA for welfare advice and support, making them a model of best practice.
