On Sunday 4th December, over 130 people attended Quizmukah, Young World Jewish Relief’s (YWJR) festive quiz night, raising more than £3000 for the humanitarian aid charity. Held at New North London Synagogue, the evening comprised of Israeli food, beer and doughnuts followed by a general knowledge round to test the skills of the 15 participating teams. Highlights of the event included a round on 80’s trivia and another featured part of the UK’s citizenship test.
The money raised from Quizmukah will support WJR’s vital work with vulnerable Jewish communities in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union, transforming lives and livelihoods. Working with those most in need – including older people, children, and people with disabilities – the charity helps to relieve poverty and find long term sustainable solutions.
The winning team, ironically called “You Just Lost The Quiz” walked away with the first prize of goody bags for everyone on the team.
Emma Segal, Head of Community Partnerships at World Jewish Relief commented;
“Tonight has been a truly amazing event, to see the support of younger members of the Jewish community having fun but more importantly helping to support those less fortunate than themselves has been incredible. During the holiday period it is especially important to remember those who will not have a gift list requesting the latest gadget or toy, but whose list will instead comprise of food, heating and shelter. The Young WJR committee should be commended for their achievement and I look forward to Quizmukah 2012.”
Young WJR was formed in March 2009 and is made up of ten young professionals, each of whom bring something individual to the group.
