Twiggy takes to the stage for WJR
On the 15th September 2009, over 300 women gathered at the Watford Hilton to hear renowned model and actress, Twiggy talk about her illustrious career and hear her pearls of wisdom on how to keep fit and healthy.
The event which was organised by WJR's Gemini committee - a team of dedicated volunteers who focus on engaging the community through social events - raised a remarkable £15,000 for WJR - funds that will help to improve the quality of life for vulnerable communities in Eastern Europe and the Former Soviet Union and deprived individuals across the world.
Following a short film highlighting the work of WJR Twiggy took to the stage to take part in an honest and often hilarious question and answer session. Twiggy answered questions on how she became the first ever supermodel at the age of 16, modelling for M&S and the trials and tribulations of fame and fortune saying: "When I was younger I really wasn't affected by the euphoria around me. The most important thing in my life was my family, they were the strength and continuity behind me."
Angela Gordon, Gemini committee chair, commented "WJR and the Gemini committee are very pleased to have the support of Twiggy at our function today. Not only did we raise vital funds for WJR but we also spread awareness of the projects WJR supports around the world."
