On Thursday 21st May, more than 150 people celebrated the eagerly anticipated launch of Young WJR -- a new initiative aimed at 21 -- 35 year olds, that will encourage a new generation to support WJR. The Brazilian themed sell out event took place in North London hotspot 'Made in Brasil' and raised over £1,300 for WJR.

Young WJR is the official charity partner of JDate.co.uk, who generously sponsored the launch event. Led by a dedicated steering group, Young WJR aims to effectively bridge the gap between being interested in charity initiatives and actually getting involved. Young WJR will organise future events, as well as encouraging more people to get involved. Those interested can join The Big Hand -- WJR's volunteering scheme which offers a range of volunteer roles without having to commit to anything in advance -- people can volunteer as and when they see an opportunity they'd like to be involved with. Young WJR will also welcome members' ideas and involvement for planning parties, exhibitions and other events.

Darren Gladstone from JDate.co.uk commented: "JDate.co.uk is delighted to have chosen Young WJR as its official charity partner for 2009. We see great similarities between our own aim of strengthening Jewish life by creating meaningful and long-lasting relationships, and the work that Young WJR is carrying out around the world, including that in outlying Jewish communities".

Young WJR committee member Coral Summers, said: "Young WJR seeks to engage young Jewish professionals with the invaluable work carried out by the charity around the world. We're extremely grateful to all those who attended the launch and for making it such a huge success. We have already started planning the next event and look forward to making it an even bigger, better event!"

By contributing just £2 a month through Young WJR, members will be providing a desperate elderly person in Eastern Europe with a critical winter relief package to help individuals make it through incredibly harsh winter conditions.
