Defiance Raises £3,500 for WJR
WJR's Gemini Committee hosted an exclusive preview screening of Defiance at the Phoenix Cinema, East Finchley on Sunday 14th December raising £3,500 for WJR.
The Gemini Committee, a team of volunteers who focus on engaging the community through social events, sold over 250 tickets to see the new upcoming World War II film. Directed by Edward Zwick, the director of Blood Diamond, Defiance stars Daniel Craig who plays one of four Jewish brothers from Poland who manage to escape from the Nazis and fight back to rescue fellow Jews.
The money raised from the event will go towards WJR's Tony Brooks Project which supports the building of the children's wing of the new Jewish Community Centre in Krivoy Rog, which is due to open in May 2009.
Paul Anticoni, Chief Executive, WJR, commented: "Gemini's support of the Tony Brooks Project is fantastic, and the money raised will help to ensure the new Krivoy Rog JCC will serve the whole Jewish community and generations to come."
