KEY FACTS
Money raised at the event will go towards helping women and children suffering from HIV/AIDS in Diepsloot township in South Africa.
Money from the event will also go to WJR's Burma Cyclone Nargis Emergency Appeal.
On Sunday 1st June, the Gelt Trip committee – affiliated to WJR (World Jewish Relief) - ran a unique women’s only event at Westbourne Studios near Notting Hill, to mark the eagerly anticipated release of ‘Sex and the City – The Movie’.
More than 200 people attended the exclusive afternoon of entertainment that included a series of showcases from experts in fashion; food and diet; relationships and burlesque entertainment, with a guest appearance by Channel 4’s Anna Richardson (Supersize vs Superskinny) and Borat look-a-like Dan Kazakhstan.
The event aimed to unite women to raise money for meaningful and relevant causes, and the remarkable £15,000 proceeds will go towards helping women and children suffering from AIDS/HIV in Diepsloot township in South Africa. In light of recent events, the Gelt Trip committee decided to share the funds with WJR’s Burma Cyclone Nargis Emergency Appeal.
WJR – in its capacity as the charity that channels the UK Jewish community’s response to international disasters – launched the Emergency Appeal to raise critical funds for the Burmese victims. WJR works closely with trusted partners on the ground overseas, ensuring that all of the funds raised will go directly to those in need.
Amy Beilin, Chairperson of the Gelt Trip committee, commented:
“Sunday’s event was a huge success for Gelt Trip and I am extremely proud of the figure we raised, which will go towards vital WJR projects overseas. Thanks must go to our sponsors for their generous support and to every woman who came to share the afternoon with us. We look forward with anticipation to our winter event.”
