WJR Launches The Big Hand
KEY FACTS
The Big Hand will launch at Ivy House on 26 March 2008
Baroness Neuberger - the Prime Minister’s volunteering champion - will speak of the importance and rewards of giving time to charity
Volunteering through The Big Hand will be on a no-commitment, truly flexible basis
On Wednesday 26th March, WJR will launch a unique and exciting new community initiative – The Big Hand – which will shake up the way community members volunteer.
At the launch event being held at Ivy House, Baroness Neuberger - the Prime Minister’s volunteering champion - will speak of the importance and rewards of giving time to charity.
In an unprecedented move, WJR has turned the general volunteering practice on its head; consulting those who would like to be involved about their interests, skills and what opportunities they are keen to see. This will then be matched to the work already available or WJR will create new, genuinely useful opportunities. WJR has enlisted the professional support of Lia Bogod, who will work on a voluntary basis herself as the new Volunteer Coordinator, liaising closely with everyone involved.
Volunteering through The Big Hand will be on a no-commitment, truly flexible basis. The programme will allow individuals of any age the chance to use their skills or learn new ones, for the direct benefit of WJR recipients – hundreds of thousands of people worldwide.
The launch will take place between 10.00am and 11.30am at Ivy House, North-West London. If you are interested in attending, or getting involved with The Big Hand, please email thebighand@wjr.org.uk, call 020 8736 1250 or click below for more details.
