Gemini is made up of ten dedicated volunteers and was founded 20 years ago as a small ladies fundraising committee. The group has grown both in strength and diversity and through various fundraising initiatives has raised in excess of £25k in one year for WJR.
Their main fundraising events include the infamously challenging annual supper quiz - Ian Crooke steps in here as Gemini's only male member and quiz master - and ladies lunches, most recently with guest speaker Twiggy. They also organise cookery demonstrations, film nights and guided city walks.
Angela Gordon, committee chair, says "We support WJR because we understand what an immense difference their work makes to both the old and young vulnerable people in the former Soviet Union. As well as helping to raise the much needed funds, we also know it is important that more people become aware of the work that WJR do and we feel this is an important part of what we do."
